Construction of $28M West King Street apartment building for ages 55+ to start in 2 weeks

Construction of Landis Place on King, an older-adult housing project costing nearly $28 million, is expected to begin in the next two weeks, helping to address a severe shortage of rental housing here. The general contractor is High Construction Company.

In advance of that milestone, a “blessing the ground” ceremony was held Wednesday by developer Landis Quality Living at the 239 W. King St. site, formerly occupied by Rendezvous Steak Shop and House of Tacos. Demolition of the two structures began June 24.

Lebanon County dairy farmers Reid and Diane Hoover had a heavy decision on their shoulders at the start of this year.  

They're co-chairs of the National Holstein Convention, which was originally slated for the Lancaster County Convention Center in June 2020 but postponed by the pandemic to this summer.  

When 2021 rolled around, the Hoovers had to choose whether to recommend holding the convention as scheduled or delaying it again. This time, though, the circumstances were different. So the Hoovers and state Holstein association leaders urged the national association to go forward with the event. Holstein USA concurred.

Apartment Construction Accelerates Following Lifting of COVID Restrictions

High Real Estate Group announced it has opened two of three buildings it is constructing for The Flats at Kennett Square at 603 Millers Hill Road. The community of 175 total units consists of studio, one-, two-, and three-bedroom models and is already approximately 40-percent leased. 

High broke ground on the development in May 2019, with the intention of opening in fall 2020.

High Foundation recently presented scholarship awards to Brandon Knepper of Mechanicsburg and Kara Wertz of Jersey Shore, Pennsylvania. Both students have been awarded $20,000 scholarships, which provide $5,000 per year for four years.

Douglas Bell – son of Greg Bell, Senior Accountant with High Company LLC, who joined High in 2006.

Mary Lefever – daughter of Perry Lefever, Industrial Forklift Operator with High Steel Structures LLC, who joined High in 1978.

High Foundation Matching Grant of $75,000 to Fund Lancaster's Comprehensive Plan

From City of Lancaster

Partners for Places has awarded the City of Lancaster with a $75,000 grant to fund the 2022 Comprehensive Plan. High Foundation has generously provided $75,000 in matching funding, giving the City a total of $150,000 for the community engagement process for the Comprehensive Plan.

The Comprehensive Plan is meant to reflect a community consensus about the direction for future growth and community development in Lancaster over the next 20 years.

Treasures Markets ribbon cutting

Nonprofit Treasures Markets opens in Lancaster City

Treasures Markets, a discount grocery and general merchandise store, has opened in Lancaster.

The 27,000-square-foot store is owned by a nonprofit organization that will donate all of its proceeds to local charities, beginning with Water Street Rescue Mission, whose job-training program will also be a source for employees.

High Foundation financed the building of the store and helped stock up the inventory. Funding also came from the Community First Fund of Lancaster.

Lancaster City Small Business Emergency Fund to offer $1.45M in loans, grants to support COVID-19 losses

Lancaster city small businesses struggling due to the COVID-19 pandemic will soon have access to a new fund with $1.45 million in available loans and grants.

Launching this month, the Lancaster City Small Business Emergency Fund will offer assistance in the form of low-interest loans or grants to city businesses that have annual revenues less than $1 million. Fulton Bank, Ferree Foundation and High Foundation are initially providing a combined $200,000 for grants.
